Investing in widow’s economic empowerment project would set a direct path to eradication of poverty, gender equality, poverty eradication, and inclusive economic growth. Empowering widows to support themselves and families would help Widows to support themselves and their families. This is also means addressing social stigmas that create exclusion, and discriminatory or harmful practices, which is quite common in Africa, where a widow can be required to undergo a period of isolation and imprisonment, purification ceremonies to “cut the link” with her deceased husband and pressed to remarry.
The Widows Empowerment Initiative for Africa would be making enormous contributions to widows’ economies, whether in trade, or farms, as entrepreneurs or businesses. Our aims are to empower up to 1 million widows to increase income, build assets, wealth and business leadership.
