Mrs. Hajira Galadima is a widow we met in the Northern part of Nigeria, Taraba State. Mrs. Hajira was widowed for 3 years before she decided she needed to reach out and ask from support from The Widows Empowerment Initiative for Africa. Mrs. Harija proposed the idea of starting a charcoal business to help and empower more people of Taraba State. Our volunteers assessed and interviewed Mrs. Hajira and knew straight away that a cash sum would be the best way to help in this situation. From here, Mrs. Hajira empowered herself, purchasing charcoal for herself and starting her own company by herself. In the past Mrs. Hajira found it extremely difficult to supply and care for her family and herself, however now we can proudly say that Mrs. Hajira made a difference and can now support herself.
Sarah was supported with a cash sum for food stuff business, to enable her support for her 3 children. Sarah was very pleased with the support we offered to her by our NGO.
Mary is one of our widows who received a cash award to start up her open business, she was the 1st of 13 shortlisted widows in Delta State, Warri, Nigeria. For a month or so before we had met, she had been looking for somewhere to build her own little stall and set up so she can begin to trade, our team encouraged her to keep searching for a space to set her business up. Our widow planned on selling yam, garri and eggs and much more. We do not believe in just giving our widows money and leaving them to do it on their own, we try to help in every possible way. We are part of their lives and their concerns are ours also. We checked regularly to make sure her business is still running smoothly and monitor their trades. We supplied our widow with *13, 000 to make a start on her business. This widow has now been controlling her own business for over a year and is still enjoying her own stall, she said herself “I am happy now. I can wake up in the morning and be looking forward to going to my own shop. Thank you for coming for my heart. Life was beginning to become unbearable for me and I can now support my children. Thank you so much.” Multiple videos and pictures can be seen on our Facebook of our widows and how much they have grown their businesses by themselves and tackled this poverty problem. https://fb.watch/bU6gFzX9qv/
